Blogging every day is pretty damn tricky. Mostly because some days I've got a DIY under my belt and other days it's just like 'blarg?" and all I got is a theory on the backstory for FROZEN/probably the plot of FROZEN 2.
No joke, a pigeon just flew by my window. Which is weird cause we live in the country and I swear you never see pigeons in the country. Maybe it took the train out for a weekend getaway. Why are there only pigeons in the city? I swear they covered this on an episode of WILDKRATS
Since it's Friday, maybe I'll recap this week's cooking! It was a strange week.
We had a fondue on Sunday. That was pretty great. I mean, a pot full of melted cheese is always great. I don't understand why people say they don't use their fondue pots. It's a perfect meal with a ton of vegetables. (All slathered in cheese but whatever). The best part was we got these tiny round bite size zucchini in our CSA and they were just perfect.
I also made a pizz'alad this week, under the advisement of a friend who insisted they were a real thing. You'd be surprised at how little coverage of pizz'alad instruction there is on the internet. SHOCKING. But I mean, the basic premise is 'make a pizza, cover it in salad. So it's not very hard, I suppose. I had my doubts, it seemed like one of those weirdo healthy options that is just dumb... but then it turned out to be delicious! Turns out you should never eat a salad without a thin crust pizza underneath. That's the takeaway.
Also this week I made onigiri. Sounds fancy but they're really just rice balls stuffed with delicious things. I did... shitake mushrooms, spicy crab, and reguar crab. They were insanely filling though. I can't make onigiri without thinking of Fruits basket though. YOU ARE THE SALTY PLUM. YOU JUST CAN'T SEE IT.
Made some gnocchi. I'm finally figuring out how to make exactly enough for 2 people. Two ravenous people. I mean, I'm working on it. Still enough food to feed 4 people but we're almost there! Did that with some sauteed kale, broiled turnip, and smoked salmon. It was really just a vehicle to get some smoked salmon to my mouth. Love me some lox.
Yesterday I did some braised leeks with a spicy peanut noodle bowl. This turned out pretty tasty!
Today is a classic: Poutine. A few twists, gonna maybe smash some potatoes and add some beans up in that business. We'll see how it all works out.
So... hopefully that made you hungry? Hah. I didn't make any desserts this week as the bf and I were still polishing off the MASSIVE two layer strawberry buttercream cake that I made for our anniversary. I KNOW how much butter went into that monster. Totally worth it, and I wish I had more reasons to make cake monsters. Who wants a cake? You can pay me in butter.
