BONJOUR
or, I suppose, HOLA. I've got a sweet 80 day streak going in Duolingo for my Spanish lessons. We hav reached 'oh I kinda understand abuela' on Jane the Virgin levels of speaking Spanish which.. not much! But it's something, so whatevs.
The bf and I have finally started watching Making a Murderer. Considering we just finished 'American Crime Story' and I listen to the podcast 'break down' which covers court cases in detail... let's just say that everything to do with courts seems SO GRIM. Also, American Crime Story and Making a Murderer are excellent companion pieces.
Jane the Virgin continues to be my favorite. You know how you know? Cause I save it as THE ULTIMATE MOTIVATION to get on my treadmill. It hits that sweet 'Friday I don't wanna exercise' spot. I've got a prediction for where the show is gonna go and there will be SWEET SWEET VINDICATION when we get there.
Speaking of exercise, I've started exercising Monday-Friday. I used to do Mon/Wed/Fri. Mind you, Tue/Thurs are not GREAT workouts. They are basically 'let's do a whole bunch of crunches' days. But I'm getting the dot on my fitocracy calendar, so that's all that matters.
ARE YOU READY FOR THE GREAT REVEAL??
I know that technically you kinda saw some of this in the ombre mountain posts. But prepare for a GREAT before and after.
BEFORE:
So originally this was 'the rabbit room'. Bf had given the rabbits their own bedroom long before he met me, so.. that's how it goes. He had also never bothered to clean the room on moving into the house, rationalizing that the rabbits weren't gonna care, and the walls were strewn with.. something gross.
What it looked like was if you gave a bunch of toddlers a case of pop and they went wild spewing it all over the walls. (I, for my part, rationalized that it was soda because every other thought would have left me screaming silently in a corner)
Sadly, we lost one of the rabbits earlier this year. She was rather old and incontinent, and had been peeing on the floors for who knows how long. (Rabbits are actually fairly good about keeping it in their litterbox. Basically like cats. Meaning, they will poop all over the damn place if they are displeased with you.)
Anywho. Now we just have the one bunny.
The room also had the bonus of two gigantic holes in the wall. I didn't take a good 'before' photo of this, but just.. 2 giant foot long holes. The floors were gross, the walls were gross. It was just.. pretty gross.
(People have asked, so I will explain the hay covered chair. When there were 2 rabbits, and they were younger, the more spry rabbit would sleep on the chair as a way to get away from the other rabbit. It was an alone time chair. As much as I wanted to throw it out, introvert respects introvert. So it stayed)
The first before photo is how it was when we met. The second is the 'how it was when I moved in because what even why chaos'.

My plan of attack?
Easy enough. For the rabbit's new house, we went with a rubbermaid bin that we cut a hole out of. His litterbox fits inside neatly. He's very fond of it, and he also has a cardboard box with a cushion in it as a second siesta space. The reasoning for this was so that, as I puttered around the room, he'd have a space in which to hide if it was all too much.
Also for some reason bf was giving him enough water every day for a mastiff. We got him a smaller water dish and the hay went into a box with the surplus going to the basement. (ALSO IN A BOX)
The rest was easy though tedious!
The walls I painted with Dulux's 'Boudoir', and then created ombre mountain. The details you can find a few posts back.
I tore out the floors and we put down a plywood subfloor, with a laminate floor on top. (The laminate we got from the restore for $100. This room is 115 square feet – so it was a great bargain!) Cheap enough that if we need to replace it it's not a big deal.
Finally, replaced the trim and put down new quarter round. VOILA!
- Get the rabbit a new hidey hole and water container
- Contain the hay
- tear out the floors
- replace the subfloor
- clean and repaint the walls
- repaint the door and the window
- replace the floor
- replace all the trim

Tada! Doesn't it look great? I've still got a few things left to do such as buying a new ceiling lamp, window blinds, and a carpet for the rabbit. But overall, I'm pretty happy with it! It feels like a very different space and I'm no longer popping 3 benedryll a day. WE ALL WIN!
You may be wondering, how does the rabbit feel about this new space?

Unimpressed.
Oh well. Can't win em all.
