HELLO HELLO
What day is it even? I get so confused in the winter. Did you know that temperatures here dropped to MINUS THIRTY. That's in Celsius, and it translates to farenheit as 'stupid butt freezing cold'. Turns out that at temperatures that low my brain is just like 'go outside? Not until Spring'.
The weird thing is it's supposed to be 10degrees tomorrow, which is like.. light sweater weather? If you're me. Really, most temperatures are light sweater weather for me. If I were willowy and blonde I could play Elsa at Disney, my hands are always that cold. Sadly I'm more of an Olaf.
Anywho! Moving on, moving on.
This week I finally got around to watching the 'retooled' muppets (they got a new showrunner as of episode 11) and I quite like it! It's like they read all the reviews and comments on the AV club and just.. fixed the show? Plus, there's more Uncle Deadly and everything is improved with more Uncle Deadly. TEAM DEADLY

The boyfriend and I have started listening to the first of THE EXPANSE books (Leviathan rises.. or wakes.. I can't remember) as we quite dug the tv show. (With the exception of Miller's haircut which was distracting to the point of rage.)
This week was pretty crafty, all in all. We made some geocache swag with my baby brother which came out pretty cute! They're bookmarks!
It's amazing what you can do with felt, googly eyes and a hot glue gun.

This was a particularly good idea because my brother's idea of 'good swag' is a quarter. Not even an interesting quarter, just a quarter. To him that IS good swag, but we can't be having that.
What's geocaching? OH SWEET PERSON. YOU ARE IN FOR A STRANGE WORLD! It's like finding out you're a wizard and there's this whole other world just hidden at your fingertips. It can actually be vaguely unsettling as you realize there's a literal treasure box hidden down that path you've walked the dog for years.. but great fun! I won't bother explaining. You have google for that.
Valentine's Day was last week, and I made the boyfriend this adorable bunny for his car. (I also got him cheese and a bag of meat. TRUE LOVE)

I also made him some new underwear, courtesy of Thread Theory. They're the comox trunks and they are fabulous. I also put a bunny on the butt cause I can. (Bf likes bunnies. If you ever wonder why they're such a strong motif in our house it's cause it's his thing and I'm nothing if not obliging.)
Thread Theory has a pretty great sew along that explains how to put them together. I'd say they're good for somebody with medium level skills? I wouldn't tackle it as a beginner because knits can frustrate you pretty damn fast. Not sewing them, ironing them. THE DEVIL. I did all flat felt seams. These are a great project though, as they use very little fabric and you can get them done in a couple of hours.
Fun fact: I only seem to do flat felt seams for stuff I make for boyfriend. For myself? Fuck it. Just iron open the seams and call it a day. MAYBE if I'm feeling classy I'll hit that with some pinking shears. Stuff I make for bf? Beautiful flat felled seams. STUNNING!
It's weird, but I think my expertise might be men's shirts and underwear? I really need to figure out pants.
ALSO this week I finally got us some new chopsticks. (we have, thanks to an overzelous sushi place who passive aggressively judged our takeout order by including enough cutlery for twenty yet we keep going back, about 200 disposable chopsticks. Handy, but.. yeah)
Sadly, the cutlery organizer we have does not include a spot for chopsticks and mixing cutlery would make my tiny OCD brain explode. So! I whipped up this adorable bag from some fabric scraps for them. CUTE!

I used Hong Kong seams for this one.
Have you tried a hong kong seam? They're great. Stitch something together with WRONG sides together, turn it out and press and trim seams, then sew it again with RIGHT sides together. It's neat and tidy and tucks everything away.
ALSO, I picked up an onigiri mold and it is such a game changer. You feel SO FANCY when you make them, instant pick me up.
Onigiri is so great. Just like.. a rice ball stuffed with whatever you want. In this case it was a spicy salmon mix. I just wanna eat Onigiri all day every day cause it's so tasty.
See you next week!
