Oh man. My laptop, which had been teetering on the verge of death for a while, finally just bit it. Makes sense, it was missing a control key, the G would fall off, and the battery would drain inexplicably and getting it to power back on was a nightmare. Still, it was a good little HP.
I've got a new lappy now, my very first LENOVO! Fancy fancy. It's way lighter than my old laptop, which is neat, but I also had to finally get windows 10 which is NOT neat. Oh well. I'm sure I'll adjust. Oh well. At least we have a working webcam for chatting with grandparents when the baby gets here? So that's neat.
ANYWHO.
Had the baby shower, which went fabulously. And the nursery is finally feeling like a nursery! My hospital bag is mostly packed (should probably finalize that) though we've still got.. well. a while. 4-8 weeks potentially. Still, if my bag weren't packed then I would 100% go into labor early, right? SUCH IS THE LAWS OF BEING READY FOR SHIT. My husband doesn't quite get it, as we live... maybe five minutes from the hospital. What could I possibly need? WELL. I have LISTS for that, husband of mine. LISTS!
Moving on.
One thing that was super important to me was getting those thank you cards out as soon as possible. I dunno, I just have a thing about this. I feel like the longer you leave them, the less likely you are to get it done.
The good news is, my husband and I are those sorts of people, so we had already set up a google doc spreadsheet that we were easily able to put in what gifts we received, where people live, and if a thank you card had been sent. This spreadsheet will double for our baby announcements, making that job a bit easier too! Which reminds me I need to get more address labels...
I also took some time to make tiny tags and label all of the outfits that we had received as gifts and who from. This way, I can make sure to snap a photo and send it to the right people, and also make sure that the baby wears everything at least once. The good news is that there's not actually THAT much clothing! HUZZAH! Though.. this could change I suppose. Who can resist those tiny outfits???

Back to the thank you cards!
We've been going with this dumpling theme, so I wanted to make some fabric dumplings for the thank you cards. This was either a brilliant or terrible idea.
Making them is very much like making real dumplings. Start with a circle of fabric. Your dumpling is gonna be about half that size minus a smidge for the pleats. I traced them onto fabric using a water glass. Cutting these out will be the hardest part!
And by hardest I mean most tedious.
You could use any fabric, just so long as it's not too thick. Felt turned out to be way too thick so I used some sort of shiny white fabric I had.. I don't know what it was. I think it might have been a curtain once upon a lifetime? NO IDEA

Once you have your circles, iron them flat and press them in half. Not a necessary step but it will make things easier! Then you want to put some pleats in, pinching the fabric. You could go hardcore and aim for 5, but i found 3 did the job. (And husband was helping me.. so 3 it was!)
Here's what your pleats should look like. You're basically pinching the fabric and then pinning it. Aim to pin as close to the edge as you can!
Next, you're going to sew them. WHAT? Yup. Sew along the pleated edge. Repeat 100000 times for each dumpling. I thought i took a photo of this but.. didn't. Anyway. It's the edge with the pins. Just sew along that, use a straight stitch.
Finally! Add faces! I went with a simple smile but feel free to experiment. Maybe some terrified dumplings??? We then hot glued them to our thank yous.
AND VOILA! Cute, right?

You COULD finish that raw edge but i like to think it gave it a certain appeal. You know? Yeah. I'm lazy.
And that's all!
PS - Are you watching riverdale? I didn't even realize it was a CW show cause I was watching on netflix but it has SUCKED ME IN. Maybe I read too many of the comics as a child. And I really loved afterlife with archie. I dunno. I shouldn't be so invested in the love life of 16 year olds. BUT ITS SO GOOOOODDDDDD... Weird how in every archie universe the Blossom twins are so twincesty right? I mean.. it's the one constant of Archie. Everything can change, but the Blossoms are still creepy.
