Are you wondering if it's gross out? The answer is yes. However, it's been snowing a LOT lately (what? It's April. What is happening) so I will take vague drippy weather over snowfall.
In tv news - “The Family” continues to be pretty damn decent? It might just be because it reminds me of that documentary “the imposter”. OH. To go back in time and have that WAIT WHAT moment of 'the imposter' all over again. Alas.
I've also been listening to the podcast “Break out” - a sort of 'in the style of serial' journalism podcast that is now on it's second season. Is it heartbreaking? Yes. Is it also really compelling? Yup! A+, would recommend. Except, it's about a father who killed his infant so.. Trigger warnings. All of them. It will make you crazy angry.
Also on my 'to watch' list is a show called 'Wynonna Earp'. It's billed as 'Buffy, with cowboys.' Which.. I'm in! Sure. That sounds great.
Most of this week has been consumed with OMBRE MOUNTAIN! A wall mural that's going in the second bedroom. It's done!
Not the room, just the mural. But STILL.
This was a fun project, and very easy. The hardest thing is that the layers need time to dry between coats and there's a lot of just waiting around watching paint dry.
The second bedroom is currently occupied by bf's pet rabbit Buddy. Buddy is.. not impressed by all the ongoing renovations of tearing out floors and putting down a new subfloor and painting.

The walls themselves were.. well. They were gross. The boyfriend hadn't seen the point of washing them when he moved in, as the rabbit wasn't going to care. Which... we will agree to disagree on that point. (No we won't, I will continue to protest he is DEAD WRONG)
I gave the walls a good scrub which did.. basically nothing. Also it seems like the walls didn't have any paint on them to begin with, just some primer. STILL PRETTY GROSS
Here's a photo where I'd put a bit of primer on to show you just how gross the walls were.

I tore out the gross floors so I didn't really care about paint splashes, but I suppose you should put down a drop cloth or something if you're pleased with your floor coverings. (oh! That cling wrap type stuff they used in the great interior design challenge? That sticks to the floor? WHERE DO WE GET THAT?)
I started with a base coat of CIL's 'Boudoir'. It's a real pale mint green. (Which... is not what I'd call a boudoir colour? I would have thought something warmer. But.. that's just me) I didn't bother doing the bits where I knew the mural would cover but I DID paint the ceiling! It's a pale enough colour that it doesn't matter.
To paint your ombre mountains, start at the top with your lightest colour. I had some paint left over from the bathroom (called: CHEESE POWDER! How excellent is that?) and I mixed that with some of the Boudoir color to soften it.
I used a small roller, and just.. sorta rolled with it? (har har har) To paint mountains be aware of hills and valleys and the general physics of how dirt works. Mountains generally are bigger at the bottom and smaller at the top. Step back a few times to judge your mountains and adjust as necessary. You'll want to aim for a clean line at the top of your mountains.
Then you wait for it to dry.
..
...
.....
and do a second coat.
Then wait for THAT to dry...
and start on the second range of mountains!
I bought a can of Dulux's “The BLUES” as my darkest color and a can of white paint which I used to lighten it. Basically you add some blue paint to your tray, and add white until you get the colour you want, keeping in mind that the colour is going to dry darker on the wall. I also had some silver paint that I added to one range as well.
If you want to live on the edge, use the leftover paint from the previous range to be a base for the new colour. It means you can't mess up, you can't go back and fix the previous range, but this is a pretty free spirited project so it's FINE.
BE WILD!
TAKE CHANCES. MAKE MISTAKES.
And mostly WAIT FOR THE DAMN PAINT TO DRY BETWEEN COATS.
Omg it looks amazing though

I write the details about what the paint colours are on the inside of the outlet cover. That way, if I ever need to know the details I can check the outlet cover. They're cheap and easy to replace.
